Theresa rejoins me in Gibbston Valley's shady courtyard, filled to bursting with lunchtime diners, tasters and grazers. This is a solid, casual restaurant that does good things with the sort of low-key food one wants at midday, the local cheese, and the on-site wines, and I thoroughly enjoy a bowl of pasta with bacon, sausage, red pepper, and cream (here, much less misused than in my Los Angeles “carbonara”) with a full glass of winery-produced pinot.
