Boekenhoutskloof 2006 Semillon (Franschhoek) – I’d guess that this has rounded into full form, but who really knows? Semillon can surprise. In any case it’s my last bottle, so I probably won’t get to find out. Wax, amber, leaf, and sun, with a bit of sage-like bite and a decent bit of acidity that’s not really apparent until the finish, and even then only after a few hours of air. Pretty impressive. Last sumimer, I bought 6 of the 06 semillon at Martignetti’s cut out bin for 7 buck a btl. Assuming you are no longer living in the Boston area, that doesn’t help you much.

I am a huge fan of Boekenhoutskloof, their wolftrap and Porcupine ridge are house wines and Chocolate block is a guilty pleasure.

Not sure if I feel the same way about the Sem. A little flabby with little noticeable acid and distant fruit.

    Hi Geoff!

That’s exactly where I bought this particular and now-depleted stash ’06 as well, though I’d had it before in SA. As for the Semillon, I did like it a great deal until a few vintages ago, since which it has developed an oakier, more stridently lactic character. I don’t know if they changed their winemaking or not. But when Boekenhoutskloof errs, this is how they err.
