Trimbach 2001 Gewurztraminer “Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre” (Alsace) – From a recently-purchased lot that is, alas, a little bit heat-traumatized. There’s still plenty to like in its arid porcine minerality and light apricot glaze, but there’s also a slightly sticky and stale note that gives away the damage. (1/12)

January 17, 2012Sandi and I poured this at our wedding dinner in ’10. Murray Circle had it on their wine list for $65 so I snagged the last two bottles from their cellar. It was superb and got raves from many of the wine neophytes. I hope you don’t have too many more from your lot.

January 18, 2012Too many more, alas. They’ll be consumed quickly and without too much remorse. They were actually purchased by someone else who didn’t quite understand my hesitance regarding likely heat damage, and I thought it would be rude to refuse them; I care more about the people than I do about having to drink slightly heat-damaged Ribeaupierre at $1 over the current price of the négociant bottling.
